How it works

Your car's MPG tells you how many miles it travels per gallon. We divide your distance by your MPG to get the gallons of fuel used, convert that to litres (there are 4.546 litres in an imperial gallon), and multiply by the pump price. The default price shown is the recent UK average, but pop in the exact figure from your local forecourt for a closer estimate. Not sure of your MPG? Most modern petrol cars sit around 40-55 MPG, diesels a little higher; check your car's official figure or your trip computer.
