How we measure it
Each morning we read the live petrol and diesel prices that UK retailers report for stations around the centre of each city. We keep only prices reported in the last 72 hours, discard values that are clearly errors, and require at least four stations before a city is included. The average is the mean of those station prices, and the lowest is the cheapest single station. The radius used for each city is in the CSV (radius_miles), and varies with how dense the stations are.
These are city-area averages from live prices, not official national statistics. For the national weekly average see the UK Fuel Price Report, and for the cheapest station near you use the free Fuel Finder.
What is in the CSV
The history file has one row per city per day, starting 20 October 2026 (1 day so far). The columns are: date, city, petrol_avg_p, diesel_avg_p, petrol_lowest_p, diesel_lowest_p, petrol_stations, diesel_stations and radius_miles. All prices are pence per litre.
