1. Who we are

This Privacy Policy explains how MotifyMe Ltd collects, uses, stores and shares personal data when you use our website, run a free vehicle check, opt in to our emails, submit a vehicle or asset finance enquiry, request bespoke website work through MotifyMe Studio, or contact us.

MotifyMe® is a UK vehicle information website. We provide a free vehicle check (MOT, tax, vehicle details and an estimated valuation), motoring news, guides and a fuel price finder, the option to receive emails from us, and routes to apply for vehicle finance and asset finance, which we introduce to regulated finance partners. We also offer website design and development services through MotifyMe Studio.

For the purposes of UK data protection law, MotifyMe Ltd is the data controller for the personal data described in this policy unless we clearly state otherwise.

2. What personal data we may collect

Vehicle check data

  • The vehicle registration you enter
  • The mileage you enter for a valuation
  • Make, model and other public vehicle details returned by DVLA and DVSA
  • MOT history, tax status and estimated valuation figures
  • A one-way hashed form of your IP address, used to detect abuse and measure usage

Contact and marketing data

  • Name, where you provide it
  • Email address
  • The registration linked to a saved or valued vehicle, where relevant
  • Your marketing preferences and consent records
  • Records of unsubscribe or suppression requests

Finance enquiry data

  • Your name, email and phone number
  • Business or trading details where applicable
  • The finance amount, vehicle or asset details and related information you enter
  • Your consent and the campaign or referral data linked to the enquiry

Technical and usage data

  • IP address
  • Browser, device and operating system details
  • Pages viewed and actions taken
  • Referral source and attribution parameters such as UTM tags and click identifiers
  • Diagnostic, security and event logs

Free vehicle check and valuation data

When you use our free vehicle check, we store the registration you searched, the public DVLA and DVSA data returned, any estimated valuation produced and a one-way hashed form of your IP address. We use this to provide the check, measure usage, detect abuse and improve the service. A valuation is based on the vehicle and the mileage entered on the day, and is an estimate only, not a guarantee or offer to buy.

Marketing emails

If you ask us to email you, for example by saving a vehicle check or subscribing to our updates and giving marketing consent, we store your email address, any name and registration you provide, your consent record and engagement data such as whether an email was opened. We use these details to send you the emails you asked for and other related marketing from MotifyMe® until you unsubscribe. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email we send you.

Finance enquiry data

If you complete a vehicle finance or asset finance application on our website, we process the details you enter in that form together with attribution and campaign data connected to the enquiry. Those details are sent to our regulated finance partner so they can deal with your application. See section 6 for how this works.

Studio, contact and other enquiries

If you contact us by email or through a MotifyMe Studio enquiry or testimonial form, we process the information you choose to provide, which may include your name, email, business details, project requirements and any files you attach.

3. How we collect personal data

  • Directly from you when you run a vehicle check, save a check, subscribe to our emails, submit a finance application, send a Studio enquiry or contact us
  • Automatically through your use of our website and tools
  • Through cookies, pixels, analytics tools and attribution technologies, where permitted and where the relevant consent standard has been met if required
  • From service providers who support hosting, analytics, communications and form handling
  • From referral or campaign information such as UTM parameters and click identifiers

4. How we use your personal data

We may use your personal data to:

  • provide the free vehicle check and produce estimated valuations;
  • send you the emails you have asked for, where you have given consent;
  • pass your finance application to the relevant regulated finance partner so they can deal with it;
  • respond to Studio, business and general enquiries and provide support;
  • maintain, test, secure and improve our website and tools, and detect and prevent abuse;
  • measure page performance, campaign effectiveness and user journeys;
  • operate and evidence lead attribution for finance enquiries and related business reporting;
  • meet legal, regulatory, tax, accounting and compliance obligations;

6. Finance enquiries (vehicle and asset finance)

MotifyMe Ltd acts as an introducer only and is an Introducer Appointed Representative of Presto Finance Ltd. We offer two finance enquiry routes on our website: vehicle finance, which we introduce to Presto Finance Ltd, and asset and business finance, which we introduce to Carrot Finance Limited. In both cases we collect the details you enter on the application form and pass them to the relevant partner, who then deals with your application directly under their own privacy policy. We are not involved in the credit decision and do not handle the agreement.

Presto Finance Ltd carries out regulated credit broking activity as Principal and is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority.

MotifyMe® acts as an introducer only. MotifyMe® does not provide financial advice, does not conclude finance agreements, does not negotiate credit terms, does not arrange regulated credit and does not handle client money.

The vehicle finance calculator is for illustration only and is not a finance offer, quotation, guarantee or credit decision. Any credit assessment will be carried out by the lender, with your consent and in line with their criteria. Approval is subject to status, affordability and lender criteria.

Finance is subject to status, affordability, lender criteria and lender terms.

When you submit a finance enquiry through our website, we may process the personal data and attribution data needed to route, evidence and administer that enquiry. This may include your contact details, enquiry content, referral source, device-level attribution identifiers and campaign parameters.

Depending on the route you choose, we share your enquiry data with Presto Finance Ltd (vehicle finance) or Carrot Finance Limited (asset and business finance), and with the service providers that capture and transmit that enquiry, such as our website form handler and email delivery provider. Once your application is passed on, the relevant finance partner is the data controller for how they use your information and for your relationship with them.

Important: Once your finance application has been passed to Presto Finance Ltd or Carrot Finance Limited, they handle your application and any resulting agreement directly. You should read their privacy policy and terms for how they use your data. MotifyMe® is not party to the finance agreement.

7. Cookies, analytics, pixels and attribution tracking

We use cookies and similar technologies to operate the website, understand performance, maintain attribution and improve our marketing and user experience.

Tools and technologies we may use

  • Google Analytics 4 to understand website usage and performance
  • Meta technologies for marketing attribution and campaign measurement
  • UTM parameters and click IDs such as utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, utm_content, utm_term, gclid, fbclid and ttclid
  • Lead and form-routing tools including EnquiryLabs or equivalent integrations
  • Email open and engagement tracking using small invisible pixels embedded in our marketing emails, so we can understand whether and when our emails are opened

What attribution data may be stored

When you visit our website, we may record campaign and referral information to help us understand where a visit or enquiry came from and whether a marketing campaign generated a lead or customer action. This may include landing page data, referral channel, campaign parameters, timestamps and related browser or device identifiers.

Attribution data such as campaign parameters, click identifiers and referral information may be stored for a limited period to help us understand performance, link enquiries to their source and maintain appropriate internal reporting. Retention periods may vary depending on the technology used and business requirements.

Email open and engagement tracking

When we send you marketing emails (for example, a vehicle valuation email), those emails may contain a small invisible image, sometimes called a pixel or web beacon. This lets us see whether and when an email was opened and helps us measure how useful our emails are and improve them. This tracking applies only where you have given marketing consent, and you can stop all such emails at any time using the unsubscribe link in any email. Open tracking is not always accurate, because some email apps block images or open emails without loading them.

How consent works

Strictly necessary cookies or similar technologies may be used without consent where legally permitted because they are required to provide, secure or maintain the service you request.

Analytics, advertising, attribution and other non-essential cookies or similar technologies are used only where the relevant consent standard has been met if required by law. Where consent is required, you can accept or reject non-essential cookies using our controls.

How to control cookies

You can usually manage cookies through any cookie controls we make available and through your browser settings. Blocking some technologies may affect site functionality, attribution accuracy or parts of the enquiry flow.

  • Authorities and regulators where disclosure is required by law or reasonably necessary to protect rights, users or the business
  • Recipients you choose when you share a vehicle check result using the share options on our website

10. Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures designed to protect personal data, including access controls, role-based restrictions, secure hosting arrangements, encryption in transit where appropriate, monitoring and security review processes. No online service can guarantee absolute security.

11. International transfers

We currently expect core user data to be hosted in the United Kingdom. Some suppliers may process limited data outside the UK where appropriate safeguards are in place, such as adequacy regulations, approved contractual protections or equivalent lawful transfer mechanisms.

12. Marketing

Where required by law, we will only send marketing communications if you have consented. You can unsubscribe from marketing communications at any time using the unsubscribe link in the message or by contacting us directly.

Service-related communications, for example confirming an enquiry or replying to a message you send us, are different from marketing and may still be sent where necessary.

13. Automated decision-making and valuations

We do not intend to use your personal data for solely automated decision-making that produces legal effects or similarly significant effects on you without appropriate safeguards and lawful basis.

Where vehicle valuations or similar outputs are shown, they are provided as informational features only. They are not financial advice, not insurance valuations and not a guaranteed market assessment or offer.

14. Your rights

Subject to applicable law, you may have the right to:

  • request access to the personal data we hold about you;
  • request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data;
  • request erasure of your data in certain circumstances;
