Check Vehicle Crime in Your Area
Enter a postcode to see how much car theft and how many break-ins were reported nearby in the latest police figures. Useful before you buy, park or move.
Why check vehicle crime by area?
Car theft, catalytic converter theft and break-ins are heavily concentrated in certain areas. If you are about to buy a car, move house, or leave a vehicle somewhere new, it is worth knowing the local picture. This tool pulls the official police "vehicle crime" figures for the area around any postcode so you can see roughly how common it is.
How to read the numbers
The count covers reported vehicle crime within about a mile of the postcode for the most recent month police have published. It is a guide, not a guarantee: many incidents go unreported, and locations are deliberately approximate for privacy. Compare a few postcodes to get a feel for how one area stacks up against another.
Protecting your car and its value
A car with a clean, well-documented history is easier to sell and insure. Before buying, run a free vehicle check for its MOT history, tax status and valuation, and check whether it is ULEZ compliant if you drive into a clean air zone.
