Glasgow Clean Air Zone
Glasgow's Low Emission Zone works differently to England's charging zones: there is no daily fee to pay. Non-compliant vehicles are simply banned from the city-centre zone, and driving in triggers a £60 penalty that escalates with repeat breaches. It has applied to cars since 1 June 2023.

What counts as compliant
The emission standards are the same across UK clean air and low emission zones. A petrol car generally needs to meet Euro 4 (most registered from 2006), and a diesel car needs Euro 6 (most registered from September 2015). Fully electric cars are always exempt. It comes down to the exact emission standard, not just the age, which is why it pays to check the reg rather than guess.
The Glasgow zone
The city-centre zone bounded by the M8 to the north and west and the River Clyde to the south. Enforced for all vehicles, including cars, since 1 June 2023. It is run by Glasgow City Council.
