London Clean Air Zone
London's Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) is the UK's largest clean air scheme. Since the August 2023 expansion it covers every London borough, so almost any drive across the capital is inside the zone. Non-compliant cars pay £12.50 a day, enforced around the clock by number-plate cameras.

What counts as compliant
The emission standards are the same across UK clean air and low emission zones. A petrol car generally needs to meet Euro 4 (most registered from 2006), and a diesel car needs Euro 6 (most registered from September 2015). Fully electric cars are always exempt. It comes down to the exact emission standard, not just the age, which is why it pays to check the reg rather than guess.
The London zone
All 32 London boroughs and the City of London since the August 2023 expansion. If you are driving inside the M25 you are almost certainly in the zone. Expanded London-wide on 29 August 2023. It is run by Transport for London.
